Crossrail is Coming...

Crossrail is the visionary new rail project that will make quick and easy travel across London a reality.  It will improve comfort and help reduce congestion across the capital's existing transport network.

Crossrail will create thousands of job opportunities through the region.

Throughout September Crossrail are holding  a series of information centers across the route detailing what is planned for each area.  Visit your nearest centre to find out more about this exciting new railway:

The line will run from Maidenhead and Heathrow in the west, into central London, and out to Shenfield and Abbey Wood in the east. The link will bring an extra 1.5 million people within an hours' commute of the city's key business area, the Government said.

The Crossrail Act grants outline planning permission for the whole project unless individual elements require environmental assessment.  The new line will boost capacity on the capital's transport network by ten per cent, the Director of Transport said.

Preliminary work has already begun on Tottenham Court Road station, and main works on it and other central London stations will begin in 2010, public sector transport Venture Company Crossrail has confirmed.

This work is expected to have a major effect on businesses in the Paddington area, as a new platform will be built below Eastbourne Terrace, the enabling works for this may start as early as next year.

But the finished product will have a positive influence on the Paddington area by reinforcing the already strong transport links offered by direct trains to the South/ South East and Wales, along with the direct link to Heathrow via the Heathrow Express.

The first journeys on the new line should be made in 2017, linking east and west London to the city's business hubs.
