History of Medicine

Learn about the discovery and development of medicine and the treatment of illness from ancient to modern times, including Sir Alexander Fleming and his penicillin.  Also hear about buildings that have housed patients and the staff who cared for them, how hospitals have developed from inception in middle ages to our 21st century NHS and also some interesting facts about how certain illnesses were regarded and treated.  This tour will generally walk you through how health and illness linked into and shaped the social history of the Britain we know today. Some walks will include a tour of the Alexander Fleming Museum at St Mary's Hospital.
